MAKE THE RIGHT CALL!!!

Hey all,
If
there was one word of advice I could give you this week… Pause, Read and
React. You ask… What does
that mean Rob? Pause… see the play happen. Read…
think about the situation, know the call… React… make YOUR call. Don’t
hesitate to make a call. If there is an appeal, MAKE THE COACH COME APPEAL…
you make your call and be proud of it! If you made a mistake, configure with
your partner, correct it!!! Don’t be bashful!
OK… I have
the new 2008 Rule Books for those of you (umpires) that wish to have one. I
also have some umpire handbooks if you wish one of those as well. If you are
interested in being a District 22 umpire… you need to contact me ASAP.
The Umpire Schedule is updated online daily,
sometimes 2 -3 times daily… please check to see if you can jump in for a
game!!! Highlighted games mean I
need someone!!! Look it over and
yell back at me. (CLICK ON LINK BELOW FOR SCHEDULE!!)
ALL UMPIRES: It was noted to me by a few of you, and I
too have had this problem… it is concerning the game balls. IN ALL
DIVISIONS… the HOME team MUST furnish 2 new balls! The AWAY team MUST
furnish 1 new ball, and a good used or like new ball. ALL BASEBALLS ARE TO BE
RETURNED TO THE TEAMS EQUALLY, NO MORE KEEPING TEAMS BALLS, UNLESS THEY
SPECIFICALLY GIVE ONE TO YOU…
PLEASE enforce the fans to help get foul balls and return them for a
piece of gum!!! If a Homerun is
hit, be understanding and allow that player to keep that ball, but if they do,
have another good used/like new ball replaced by that players team,
respectively. The coaches
will be receiving another dozen or so balls soon, so there should be NO
excuse… THIS SHOULD BE A MANDATED ITEM at your plate meeting. You are
doing your plate meetings right?
ALSO… There is a
certain ball for each division… INSPECT THE BALL to make sure it is for
that division… they are as
follows:
MINORS: the
ball will say “Official League, MARK I” … DO NOT USE THIS
BALL IN UPPER DIVISIONS
MAJORS: the
ball will say “Official Ball, Little League” … DO NOT USE
THIS BALL IN UPPER/LOWER DIVISIONS
JR/SR : the
ball will say “Official Ball, Junior/Senior League” … DO NOT
USE THIS IN LOWER DIVISIONS
SOFTBALL: the ball
BETTER be yellow… LOL
